The the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, 'Why couldn't we drive it out?' He replied, Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." Matthew 17:18-21 NIV Christians have been given authority, through the name of Jesus Christ, to cast out demons. But in reference to the above Scripture, one must be full of faith and at times pray and fast. Casting out demons can and will cause harm to one who is attempting to cast them out if they do not possess the for mentioned traits. Notice the following Scripture: "Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day, the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all.
